"Praising God and Enjoying the favor of all the people.  And the Lord added to their number daily
those who were saved."  Acts 2:47
Explanation of the Book of Second Timothy.

Paul the Writer of the Book of II Timothy is writing from a dungeon in Rome. Paul has been
imprisoned in Rome, but was released for about two years. He was arrested on a Missionary
Journey and imprisoned a second time in Rome.  This time his imprisonment is more severe than
the first time.  Paul realized that his end on earth is near, and this letter is the last letter he wrote.
He addresses it to his "son Timothy": He shares three reasons for writing: 1) He was lonely; 2)
Paul was concerned about the welfare of the churches during this time of persecution under
Nero, and he admonishes timothy to guard the gospel (1:14) to persevere in it (3:14) to keep on
preaching it (4:2) and, if necessary, to suffer for it (1:8; 2:3), and 3) He wanted to write to the
Ephesian church through Timothy.
Paul urges Timothy to make haste in coming to visit him.  He knows that his end is within sight, he
states: "....Do your best to come to me quickly...."  He continues: "....When you come, bring the
cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, and my scrolls, especially the parchments..."  His Last
request of Timothy on this earth is "Do your best to get here before winter."
Think of how many times Timothy must have read this letter over and over. In the case of II
Timothy Baptist Church, some of us are receiving our last letters, and we are discovering new
meanings in them as we read and read again God's Holy Scriptures.
Now as the Symbol on the Cover of our Bulletin.  It is a diagram of the scripture Philemon 1:5 and
Colossians 1:4. It is called a "Chiasm" in which the thought is structured like the Greek letter chi
(X): "your love and your faith, which you have toward the Lord Jesus and for all the saints".
